Natural lighting is always the best setting. Take baby’s photo near
a bright window or outdoors in a shaded spot. Cloudy, overcast days provide ideal lighting for pictures.
Avoid bright, direct sunlight and use of the flash as either may produce unflattering shadows.Photograph baby on a solid color background, such as a blanket or sheet. Do make sure your blanket is
big enough to be the background of the whole photo. When styling baby, select simple, monotone outfits.
To really make baby “POP”, choose same color for outfit and background! It is best to avoid patterns
unless you are confident they compliment the birth announcement design. Light colors photograph
well and produce nice, soft prints. If planning a black and white photo with a black background for your
photo birth announcement, use a piece of black fabric to ensure a “true” black.
When including an older sibling or parent in photo with baby, keep faces very close to each other.
Consider the orientation of your image: vertical images typically work best with vertical birth announcement designs and horizontal images with horizontal birth announcement designs. However, carefully chosen images may complement photo baby announcements of opposite orientation.
