Please ensure the best quality baby photo for your cards by taking the time to carefully read this page!
DIGITAL IMAGE REQUIREMENTS:
ONLY SUBMIT THE ORIGINAL, RAW, UNEDITED, UNCOMPRESSED, FULL COLOR IMAGE FILE.
Our professional retoucher achieves optimum results with unaltered image files.
PLEASE DO NOT convert your color images to black and white or sepia tones. If you desire your image to be converted please indicate this preference when you email baby’s photo to us. We will professionally convert your color images for you.
PLEASE DO NOT crop your image. If you desire specific cropping, you are welcome to send an example image file, but we NEED your ORIGINAL image file to work from.
PLEASE DO NOT send a blurry or grainy image. Blurriness and graininess cannot be removed from an image. Please check your photos by zooming in on them. See examples of blurry and grainy images.
OPTIMALLY, WE NEED A MINIMUM IMAGE SIZE OF 1200x1800 PIXELS (at 300dpi). To allow for the widest range of cropping possibilities, please set your camera to the highest image or pixel size.
SUBMITTING DIGITAL IMAGES:
Please save image as a JPEG file, at the highest quality possible (NO COMPRESSION), and email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Use baby’s FULL name as the subject line of email. Include last name of person ordering, if last name is different than baby’s (e.g., Hannah Grace Mayes - Smith order).
Natural lighting is always the best setting. Take your baby’s photo near a bright window or outdoors in a shaded spot. Cloudy, overcast days provide ideal lighting for pictures. Avoid bright, direct sunlight and use of the flash as either may produce unflattering shadows.
Photograph baby on a solid color background, such as a blanket or sheet. Do make sure your blanket is big enough to be the background of the whole photo. When styling baby, select simple, monotone outfits. To really make baby “POP”, choose same color for outfit and background! It is best to avoid patterns unless you are confident they compliment the baby announcement design. Light colors photograph well and produce nice, soft prints. If planning a black and white photo with a black background, use a piece of black fabric to ensure a “true” black.
When including an older sibling or parent in photo with baby, keep faces very close to each other.
Consider the orientation of your image: a vertical image typically works best with a vertical card design and a horizontal image with a horizontal card design. However, a carefully chosen image may work for a card of opposite orientation. Please see our Photo Birth Announcements Gallery for ideas and examples.
35MM CAMERA TIPS:
The best type of film to use is 200 or 400 speed film. Anything higher will be too grainy.
PLEASE DO NOT use a disposable camera.
SUBMITTING 35MM PRINTS... OR PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS:
We will professionally scan your 35mm print for you to ensure a high-quality end result for your cards. (GLOSSY PRINTS SCAN BEST!) We will send your print back to you with your order. If at all possible, please do not send your ONLY copy of the print, as we cannot be responsible for the mail delivery service. Please clearly write baby’s FULL name in pencil on back of print. Also write last name of person ordering, if last name is different than baby’s (e.g., Hannah Grace Mayes - Smith order).
Please email us at email@example.com to let us know that you will be submitting a 35mm print or professional photograph and we will email you back with a shipping label. Use baby’s FULL name as the subject line of email. Include last name of person ordering, if last name is different than baby’s (e.g., Hannah Grace Mayes - Smith order).
PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPH REQUIREMENT:
If you are submitting a professional photograph, please be sure to include a signed release from the photographer allowing us to reproduce the photograph.
